RS485 Wiring and Commissioning

Public field guidance for RS485 topology, addressing and verification in CyberSun SEMS deployments.

Purpose

This article provides the approved public RS485 guidance that can be given without inventing board-specific electrical details.

Preferred RS485 daisy-chain topology
Use a daisy-chain bus with unique slave IDs and verified device-side serial settings.

Publicly safe field rules

  • prefer a daisy-chain bus layout;
  • keep slave IDs unique on the same bus;
  • match SEMS serial settings to the device-side settings;
  • verify the correct device profile before changing advanced control parameters.

What must be verified on site

  • actual A/B polarity
  • whether the installed board variant exposes the needed RS485 connector
  • whether termination is required for the specific installation
  • the device-side baud rate, parity and stop bits

The engineering audit explicitly rejected publication of universal SEMS RS485 pinouts and connector guarantees across all board variants. Always verify the actual board and the actual vendor device before wiring.

Common communication failures

  • duplicate slave ID
  • wrong baud rate
  • wrong parity / stop bits
  • A/B polarity mismatch
  • device-side Modbus disabled
